BLACKLISTED DICTATOR

Mike,
I am concerned that The SAJBD is legitimizing Durban 2 by publicly stating that it is trying to influence how it will be organized. The SAJBD should be stating that it will have absolutely nothing to do with the next antisemitic hate fest.
I have to concludethat the "Krengel/Kahn" SAJBD duo is either extremely naive or is hell-bent on selling Jewish self-respect down the river.

JoeTalin

Why complain about CIJA being excluded from the conference? They won't have to witness the circus that WILL be. Rather watch it from the safety of the television.

mike

Anthony,

I completely disagree. I have said before that the best way to approach this conference is to engage as much as possible. first prize is to get the agenda to be balanced. In this respect, I support the SAJBD's efforts. What I am saying is that to achieve this we need more than just promises. We need to hold the Government to its word and see action.

mike

Joe,

Thats like saying why complain that Jews were expelled from Spain, they wouldn’t want to live in that anti-Semitic country anyway.

Hillel

Perhaps the best way to prepare for Durban II is to give them enough rope to hang themselves. Durban I is reasonably well recognised for the joke that it was, maybe with some clever manipulation Durban II can be even more of a non-event.

On an unrelated topic:

(Really, the main stream media was lying / wrong? I'm just flabbergasted!)

BLACKLISTED DICTATOR

Mike,
I completely disagree.
The SAJBD will have zero influence over Durban 2.Their attempt to "engage" will lead to no positive results.
It is about time that they realized that they are being used by the antisemites/antizionists who are organizing the conference. They are unwittingly giving Durban 2 some moral legitimacy.
If you really believe that Durban 2's agenda could be balanced by the intervention of The SAJBD then I have to encourage you to get your brains tested.

JoeTalin

Mike, I was being facetious regarding them watching from TV. CIJA will never, ever get a platform on which to speak that the conference. Libya and Iran are amongst the organisers and are already boycotting CIJA's inclusion in the conference. If they win this battle, it will be a hollow victory as their presence will make no difference to the conference proceedings.

BLACKLISTED DICTATOR

Mike,
The SAJBD should be helping to co-ordinate the boycott of Durban II.

Israel, U.S. to coordinate on boycott of Durban II conference
By Barak Ravid, Haaretz Correspondent

"Israel and the U.S. decided a few weeks ago to boycott the Durban II conference scheduled for early 2009 and likely to harshly criticize Israel's human rights record unless they receive firm guarantees that the event will not turn into anti-Israel festival.

According to a senior government official, the joint decision was made after discussions among senior U.S. State Department and local Foreign Ministry officials, and after being raised in talks between Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

Israel and the U.S. decided to make their participation in the conference conditional on guarantees the event would not become a rerun of the previous United Nations rights conference in Durban in 2001.

"The burden of proof will be on the UN and the organizers," a Jerusalem source stated.

The September 2001 conference in Durban, South Africa had been slated to deal with racism and xenophobia, sponsored by South Africa, the UN Human Rights Commission and the UN non-aligned states a body dominated by Arab states.

The conference was attended by official government delegations, as well as non-government organizations who dictated a hard anti-Israel and anti-Semitic line.

The attacks on Israel included accusations of apartheid, that Zionism is racism, and that the Holocaust is not a unique event but similar to other events in history.

Delegates also said Israel was "born in sin," the result of ethnic cleansing of Arabs and that in the present, it is committing genocide against Palestinians.

U.S. and Israel's representatives walked out of the conference in protest at these attacks.

Israel and world Jewish organizations have begun a campaign against the upcoming conference, although it still has no final date or location. In February, the Foreign Ministry held its first coordinating meeting and another will be held next month in Geneva, under the auspices of the UN Watch monitoring group, and will discuss strategies to prevent anti-Semitism and attacks on Israel at the follow-up conference.

So far, Canada has announced plans to boycott the conference and Israel is trying to convince other countries to make their participation conditional on preventing a similar agenda.

Jerusalem estimates that conference organizers will try to blur the real agenda until the last minute to draw in as many UN members as possible. "We are concerned this time too there will be criticism and an anti-Semitic attack," a Foreign Ministry official said. "What can you expect from a conference whose organizers include Cuba, Iran and North Korea."

On Wednesday, many major U.S. newspapers ran an advertisement signed by 25 public figures including former politicians, religious leaders and intellectuals, calling on the government to boycott the conference. Signatories included Nobel Prize laureate Elie Wiesel, former CIA chief James Woolsey and law professor Alan Dershowitz. The signatories called on Rice to announce a boycott of the conference, denouncing it as a platform for anti-Semitism "slated to encourage hatred of Israel and the U.S."

The U.S. decision to boycott the conference came in coordination with Israel. The two countries agreed to publish a joint statement similar to Livni's recent announcement that Israel plans to boycott the conference as long as it serves as a platform for anti-Semitism and anti-Israel sentiment.

A Jerusalem official expressed regret that there appears to be no change in the conference's agenda. "Israel is sorry that the UN secretary general and the UN Human Rights Commission are not doing enough to change the content despite their dissatisfaction.

"This is another example of how a UN-sponsored conference to fight racism and xenophobia is about to become an arena for extreme political Israel-bashing, while ignoring areas in the world where racism, religious persecution and intolerance of foreigners, are rampant."

Israel plans to continue combating the planned conference content together with Jewish groups and the U.S. and Canadian governments."

Wiesel, Dershowitz want U.S. to boycott Durban conference
By The Associated Press

Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel, law professor Alan Dershowitz and former CIA Director James Woolsey are urging the United States to skip next year's United Nations anti-racism conference in a full-page advertisement appearing Thursday in four newspapers.

The ad, a copy of which was obtained Wednesday by The Associated Press, was signed by 25 people, including religious, academic and legal figures. They label the conference as anti-Semitic, and urge U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to announce that the United States will not participate.

The ad is scheduled to run in the New York Sun and The Washington Times, as well as the Washington political newspaper Politico and Roll Call, a newspaper designed for the use of members of Congress and others who work there.

The conference, known as Durban II for the South African city that will host it, follows the 2001 World Conference Against Racism. At that meeting, criticism of Israel prompted the U.S. and Israeli delegations to walk out.

A few months later, Israel's then-deputy foreign minister, Michael Melchior, said the conference hosted the most racist speeches and proposals to be heard in an international forum since World War II. He added that the conference became the mouthpiece for a new and venal form of anti-Semitism.

The ad says that next year's conference "seeks not to combat racism, but to promote and fuel hatred toward Israel and America. ... There is an immediate way to act against growing anti-Semitism around the world - say no to Durban II. Declare that the United States will not participate in a dialogue that promotes prejudice."

BLACKLISTED DICTATOR

Mike,
Did you know that Durban II will be chaired by Libya and co-chaired by Cuba ?
It is going to be a show-trial (the sole defendant being Israel and The Jews) and will certainly draw its inspiration from the justice that was cynically paraded in Nazi courts.

Mediocrates

I'm with BD. You can't shame the shameless. Hoping that monsters do enough crazy things to embarrass themselves is silly. That is their nature. They enjoy being monsters.

David Saks ( Associate Director SAJBD), now has a Thought Leader blog of his own. "Supernaturalists" should check it out.

I have added the following comment to his first article entitled.. "A society where discrimination has no place."

David,
You write:
“Jews feel more comfortable here because, for all the problems we face, we are succeeding in creating a society where diversity is respected and all forms of bigotry abhorred.”
I think that the above is debatable. With Durban II looming, many South African Jews will feel extremely uncomfortable. It is evident that another antizionist/antisemitic hate fest is about to be welcomed by the ANC govt and, as a result, many South African Jews will feel alienated and isolated.

The irony of this blog is just TOO funny. Jews complaining about unfair press. As a South African living in Brooklyn, I havee seen first hand how the Jews are controlling the press here. Fortunately the Americans are beginning to catch on that the 'anti-semite' race card has been dealt already. Israel is abortion of a country involved in the holocaust of the Palestinians and HISTORY will catch up with it. Who ever thouhght Apartheid will eventually fall.

Ariel

So mac you can you prove that Israeli's are trying to exterminate the Palestinians?

And how is Israel an abortion of a country? To me it seems that despite ti's faults they have managed to build a rather liberal democracy.

Lastly how are 'the Jews' controlling the media there? Evidence please.

BLACKLISTED DICTATOR

Mike and Steve,
Mac, I think, implies that Jews are controlling the South African press.
Is Ronno Einstein really that powerful?

Castor Troye

Mac's comment reminds me of joke I once heard.

A Rabbi saw that his community was feeling depressed. So at the local shul, he stopped bringing in the weekly Jewish commnunity newspaper and instead started bringing in a far right wing anti-semitic newspaper.
When asked why the Rabbi did this, he replied, "In the Jewish papers, it says that Jews are fighting one another, Jews are unemployed and so on while in the Right wing paper, it says the Jews control the media and and are too successful in politics. So i thought it may lift the community spirits"

Mac, if you feel you have been short changed then don't watch this "Jewish run" media. Or better yet, why not get a job and start your own media company. That's what many Jews did and look where they are today.

As a South African living in Manhattan, I can say that Americans are bored of your conspiracy rhetoric

BLACKLISTED DICTATOR

Mac,
Did you find the "irony" in my last comment "TOO funny"? Or am I TOO serious for this blog?

Castor Troye

The UN should organise an conference on the rights of homosexuals and use it as a basis point to attack Iran and the Hamas regime. Sounds a bit far-fetched doesnt it? Well so too does a conference on racism specifically attacking one country only and that country is israel.

the only difference though is that Iran and Hamas have it in their laws and charters to actively discriminate against homosexuals and in some cases execute them. But according to Mahmud, there are no homosexuals in iran, its a western "thing". perhaps, human rights altogether is just a western "thing" too.

Gary

Sadly no Gay rights groups in the West or SA have spoken up against Iran.
On the contrary most of them are violently anti-Israel, and hysterically pro-Islamic/pro-Palestinian.
They have never marched against Iran, hamas etc but they march against Israel and howl about the poor towel head terrorists who were roguhed up at Guantanmao Bay- favourite cause of gay leftists.
