If there was an image that could caricature the darkness forced upon us by the series of power cuts that now plague South Africa, it is this. And it is enough to make you sick.
Mbeki Travels to Zimbabwe for Political Talks
South Africa's President Thabo Mbeki (L) stands with Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe at Harare International Airport January 17, 2008. Mbeki arrived in Harare on Thursday in a bid to break a deadlock over Zimbabwe's political crisis amid signs that the government would not yield to opposition demands for a new constitution. |
Speaking of caricatures, the 'toon below does more justice to the video I saw on the news that showed Mbeki and Mugabe engaged in a huge embrace.
The power cuts continue unabated and South Africa is crumbling.
It turns out that we supply neighbouring African countries with the equivalent of a whole power station's supply of power. Why not feed our own first?
It is also being alleged that Zimbabwe, the largest foreign recipient of Eskom power, does not even pay for the power they receive.
We should cut Zim off. It makes sense for our own needs and will be a good foreign policy step.
