Honest Reporting has released their annual Dishonest Reporting awards and for the second year running one of the awards goes to a South African.
Last year, SABC Chief of News and Current Affairs, Dr Snuki Zikalala, won the Worst News Executive Award for the SABC blacklisting scandal and this year cartoonist Zapiro has won the Worst Cartoon of 2007 award for his unprincipled portrayal of the 6 day war.
For those that don't know, Israel wasn't even supported by the US until after the 6 day war. And even though the root causes of the war are hotly disputed by both sides, not even the revisionist historians like Tom Segev in his new book on the war discount the Arab aggression leading up to the war.
If you want to know what the 6 day war was really about, make sure you look at these cartoons from the Arab press prior to the war.
If you want to see the lengths that Zapiro will go to in order to caricaturise Israel as plain evil, see this cartoon (or these).
IAS Search: Zapiro
My own personal peeve with that comic is that it also ignores the fact the Arab and later Palestinian factions were funded by the USSR the now defunct superpower and rival to the US.

Brilliant point Ariel.
Question - Has Zapiro ever made any statements in defence of this cartoon?
