A couple of days ago Syria invaded Lebanon. They penetrated 3km into Lebanese territory, digging hundreds of trenches and bunkers. Over the weekend it was then reported that Syria has called on its citizens to evacuate Lebanon. Something smells funny.
The Syrian penetration into Lebanon has hardly received any coverage. Michael Totten has pointed out that "if Israel sent the IDF three kilometers into Lebanon and started digging trenches and building bunkers it would make news all over the world. But Syria does it and everyone shrugs. Hardly anyone even knows it happened at all."
He is correct. See the Yahoo! News Full coverage page for Syria. Anyone see any mention in our local media? I haven't.
Meanwhile in other developments and hot off the wires, Reuters reports that the Lebanese army is about to launch a final and decisive attack against "al-Qaeda-inspired militants holed up at a Palestinian refugee camp."
Interesting you point out the Lebanese offensive against Al Qaeda/Palestinians in the refugee camp. Has anyone been following this? If you read the scarce reports coming out its unbelievable. Reporters aren't allowed in so we don't get the full story.(Although that said if reporters were allowed all we'd get are lies, so I don't know which is worse). But even from whats coming out - they are literally shelling refugee camps. Who knows how many civilians are being killed. Has the media even peeped once?
The Palestinians have been treated far worse by the Arab world than by Israel, and the world doesn't say a thing! We given them water and electricity the Arab world deals out death (for example Black September). Interesting how people can still think that the media bias is based perhaps on ignorance and not outright anti semitism

Brett, funny no mention of the M word. When Israel accidently kills a handful of civilians the send a UN mission to investigate.

Another conveniently forgotten story is the Hamas boycott of Israel's fruit and their efforts to ensure a lock down of Gaza, including presumably a halt to UN aid.
Note that, unsurprisingly, most of the media are blaming Israel for the lockdown, conveniently also forgetting that Gaza has an egyptian border.
Incidentally, during the course of the week there was an attempt to blow a hole in the Egyptian border and break through. Ostensibly an effort by Gazanians (yes, I know) to break out. Hamas admitted an explosion, denied a break through and (obviously) denied any attempt at breaking through. Remind me again where they're building the Berlin Wall of 2007?
Is it just me, or does this sound like soviet russia blaming food shortages on the USA and expressing utter amazement (incl denial) that anyone would possibly want to, dare I use the D word, defect?
A final point. Lebanon has been going on for a few weeks, it's old hat already. What about Pervez and the little war he's got going to destroy a mosque with those sweet innocent freedom fighters in it? Just imagine the US or UK, not to mention Israel, having a shoot out at a mosque like that. (Anybody remember the furore and hype over the ISLAMIC TERRORISTS holed up in the CHRISTIAN CHURCH in J'lem an the wagging tongues that caused).

Hi Steve,
I'm glad someone else noticed this...would you believe that when I wrote a story on it at JoshuaPundit, some dimwit commented and actually blamed on Israel, saying that the Golan was Syrian property and `Israel should get the hell out'?
Like the Bek'aa Valley is anywhere near the Golan?
BTW..consider yourself officially Tagged....
I hope you don't mind...it's pretty harmless.
Tot Siens, and keep up the fight!
All Best,
FF
