The South African media has barely covered the internal fighting in Lebanon even though the foreign press has described it as the "worst internal fighting in Lebanon since 1990.
At least 227 people have been killed and more than 30 000 made homeless since the fighting began in May this year.
Yesterday the Business Day and the Pretoria News ran 3 line articles off the wires to cover the events. Today the Business Day ran another puny 3 line article about a mass grave, cowering 35 bodies, that has recently been discovered. Compare this to the coverage received by incidents in Lebanon last year where a similar number of people were killed.
Where are the screaming headlines that dominated our media when Israel was fighting in Lebanon? Where are the talk-radio phone-ins? Where are the cries proclaiming "we are all Lebanese now!"?
Were we really all Lebanese last year? I don't think so.
