An Iranian cleric visits the Holocaust International Cartoon Exhibition in Tehran August 14, 2006. |
UPI describes some of the entries on display at the exhibition
Entries include cartoons of Ariel Sharon, the incapacitated former Israeli prime minister, in an SS uniform... |
It seems our very own Zapiro could have sent one of his own cartoon's into the exhibition - he has also depicted Ariel Sharon in an SS uniform. I think that this piece of Zaptrash may have even earned him the $12,000 first prize!
Also of note - attending the exhibition's opening was one of our "partners in peace", the Palestinian ambassador to Iran, Salah al-Zawawi.
Thats a bit unfair!

Melloo, I really don’t think so. Zapiro is a favourite among neo-Nazi hate sites as well. His caricatures of Israel share many similarities with the Nazi propaganda rag Der Stermer. With hindsight, I am sorry I didn’t enter that infamous cartoon of his Steve posted. I tell you he may actually have won.

I don't think Zapiro sent his own infamous cartoon in, however others would have done so for sure. I don't think the Iranians are too concerned with Western copyright/permission to exhibit laws! Zapiro's cartoons have been raved on and praised on Muslim extremist websites and his other anti-Israel cartoons have been praised by jihadists and neo-Nazis alike.
Can somebody find out if Zapiro actually won a prize for his infamous SS cartoon, is there a website/blog showing all the cartoons at the exhibition and which ones won prizes? Maybe somebody out there can do the detective work...
