Last week in Iraq a suicide bomber killed at least 35 people and wounded more than 90 near a Shi’ite shrine in Najaf.
The small coverage that this act of terror received in the local press only serves to confirm that the opinion-makers in our media are driven by a hatred for Israel and the US rather than by a true concern for innocent victims of war. How else do you explain the plethora of biting opinion pieces and editorials slamming Israel and the US when they are involved and the naked absence of this criticism when it’s internal Islamic fighting?
A quick thought exercise confirms this...just imagine if Israel had deliberately attacked civilians near a Shi’ite shrine in Lebanon that posed absolutely zero security risk?
The tragedy at Qana has received infinitely more coverage than this suicide bomb even though there were fewer casualties. Why?
In July alone there were 2000 civilian casualties in Iraq. Two thousand victims of Islamic secratarian fighting whose cries are disturbingly ignored save for the times when they are turned into instruments with which to bash America.
The world isn't crying for Lebanon. The tears that fall are the tears of a crocodile waiting just below the surface of the water ready to slash once more at Israel and the US.
