Women Should Know Their Place

In one of the most polemic and venomous anti-Israel pieces that I have ever come across Khadija Margerie takes cultural relativism to an all new low. Writing in the Mail & Guardian she effectively argues that women should never be put in positions of power because this offends against traditionally assigned Islamic gender roles. (The article is ironically titled: How low can you go?)

It is racist. It is sexist. It is pure gutter journalism.

And when countries steeped in centuries old traditions and ideas regarding the place of their women suddenly find themselves in the terrain of a 21st century war zone it doesn’t help when the new guy on the block starts rubbing his women in your face.

Khadija struggles to recognise the existence of Israel, instead loosely describing it as Israel/Palestine.

But the prize for adding the biggest insult to injury must go to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), bless their hearts. In Israel/Palestine – that ugly morass on which so many oft the world’s political problems today may be blamed the military is racked, packed and stacked with girls.

Conscription for woman has nothing to do with the Right of Return. Khadija mentions this anyway.

Because of conscription at age 18 and that wonderfully egalitarian bit of legislation known as The Law of Return the Israeli army is peopled by among others, pimply faced and anguished hormonal female teenagers from Marseilles, Addis Ababa, and lord knows where else.

…roughing up Palestinian labourers on their way to work as happens daily or shooting little schoolgirls in the head then coming down from the guard tower to confirm the kill (as really happened).

She accuses Israel of using women as a weapon of humiliation against poor Palestinian men.

But what really leaves a bitter taste is what it is doing to the psyche of the Palestinian man. In such traditional societies where women are still in traditionally assigned gender roles using your women as part of your arsenal of humiliation because you and not he wields the gun is execrable.

Oh those poor Palestinian men really are the Most Oppressed People EVER! Who can blame them for resorting to terror when their enemy has the gall to place woman in positions of power. Why women should know their place! You know, they see women in tight pants and they can’t control those naughty naughty urges.

Actually at checkpoints Israel uses women soldiers for Palestinian women and male soldiers for the men. The Palestinian women prefer being searched (if they have to be searched at all) by other women. But Khadija doesn’t care one iota about women.

She ends by making a claim on all of Israel this time calling it a land of Islam.

And like Osama bin Laden methinks they have especially no business stomping around with rifles in The Lands of Islam.

Why can’t Israel be more like the Islamic lands that she sides with? Maybe more like the moderate states of Jordan or Morrocco?

Jordan: Part of article 340 of the Penal Code states that "he who discovers his wife or one of his female relatives committing adultery and kills, wounds, or injures one of them, is exempted from any penalty."

Morocco: Article 418 of the Penal Code states "Murder, injury and beating are excusable if they are committed by a husband on his wife as well as the accomplice at the moment in which he surprises them in the act of adultery."

The less moderate states?
Syria: Article 548 states that "He who catches his wife or one of his ascendants [sic], descendants or sister committing adultery (flagrante delicto) or illegitimate sexual acts with another and he killed or injured one or both of them benefits from an exemption of penalty."

Brilliant post. I actually can not believe that any newspaper let alone a liberal one would publish that junk. Her premise is that Western women should be forced be servile in dress and behaviour in order not to offend religious Muslim men. Under the guise of cultural tolerance, she is in fact advocating cultural imperialism. In the end we will al have to confirm to the Koran in order not to offend any Muslims. Its absurd.

In Sharia law there are three types of second class citizens that do not have equal rights.

These are:
1)Slaves
2)Non Believers
3)Women

According to the Sharia as regards the above:
1) A slave's freedom can be bought
2) Nonbelievers can convert
3) For women there is no remedy. Sorry.

The author of the Mail and Gaurdian article clearly doesn't attribute much weight to the 'theory' that Squashing the voice of the Islamic female population for centuries is really the base of why Islam lost so much ground scientifically and eneded up getting klapped by the west. A klapping that is till continuing mind you...

They just don't get it.
