In today's edition of the Cape Times and the Citizen there is a Reuters piece on the agreement reached between Hamas and Fatah over the "Prisoners Document". The document, which calls for the "right of return" does not mention recognition of Israel.
The political document, penned by Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, implicitly recognises Israel. But the phrasing of the Abbas-Haniyeh deal appeared to leave the prime minister's Hamas movement wriggle room on the issue. |
Wriggle room? Hardly. Another piece by Reuters, ignored by the local newspapers quotes Hamas.
But Hamas legislator Salah al-Bardaweel told Reuters: “We said we accept a state (in territory occupied) in 1967 — but we did not say we accept two states.” |
