7: The number of people that turned up at the Durban City Hall yesterday to demonstrate against the visit of Israel's Deputy Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to South Africa. (The protest was organised by the hateful Palestine Support Committee.)
The Sunday Independant reports
THE Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the visit to South Africa of Ehud Olmert, the Israeli Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade and Industry from Wednesday to Saturday this week. South Africa's Foreign Affairs spokesman Ronnie Mamoepa said Olmert would pay a courtesy visit to President Thabo Mbeki and would also meet the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Aziz Pahad, as well as the Minister of Trade Industry, Mandisi Mphahlwa.
He said the visit came in the context of "ongoing efforts by South Africa to assist Israelis and Palestinians to find a longlasting resolution to the political crisis affecting the Middle East".
"South Africa supports the realisation of a two-state solution in the Middle East, with an independent state of Palestine co-existing side-byside with Israel within secure borders," Mamoepa said.
UPDATE
I acknowledge that far more protestors turned up in other provinces, particularly in Cape Town. Howevere I don't have any reports on the exact numbers.
