Many letters to the press in South Africa have recently pointed out that it is the Western media and faulted Western "Independent" Judiciary systems that have labeled and convicted freedom fighters as terrorists.
An example is provided in the Citizen 15/09/2004
WHILE It may be correct that almost all actions attributed today to "terrorists" (guerillas/freedom fighters) are carried out by persons who have Muslim/ Muslim sounding names, call themselves Muslims, represent Muslim organisations/causes, and "look like Muslims", is it also not true the accused are convicted in the Western media with no trials held or evidence produced? The same scenario prevails in "sophisticated First World democracies" with supposedly independent judiciaries, something the US most certainly cannot be said to have given to the Guantanamo Bay and other detainees in the US.
Whilst I agree that due process may not have been granted to all inmates at Guantanamo Bay, I don't think that Western judicial systems are most at fault when it comes to "no trials being held".
Case in point: Palestinians murder suspected collaborator
Rami Yaghmour, 28, was kidnapped, physically interrogated, and then shot in the head without any due process. Three major concerns of the left can be found here- the death penalty, physically pressured interrogation, and the absence of a free and fair trial.
