The Star are showing renewed signs of re-igniting their position in the race to hit rock bottom. Though light years behind the Mail & Guardian, Editor Moegsien Williams is obviously trying to make a comeback with Monday's editorial - What the Bush Option Means.
America is more interested in oil than in people - other people - and their right to freedom and justice. It openly supports Israel, which is not only armed to the hilt, but is ruthlessly suppressing Palestinian aspirations. And it shows an amazing tolerance of Saudi Arabia's despotic ruling family.
Really now. It is becoming boring to see the old "he supports Israel!" complaints followed by the tried and tested "it's all about the oil" canard. Today the recognition of Israel's basic right to exist is viewed by the liberal media as a devillish sin. It is not even open for debate anymore. Israel = Evil.
Moegsien makes me tired. Israel is suppressing Palestinian aspirations? Surely the Palestinian leadership have played a helping hand in surpressing their aspirations? It was Arafat who turned down an unprecedented offer in 2001 that would have produced a Palestinian state in all of Gaza and nearly all of the West Bank (WB would have been contiguous); a capital in East Jerusalem; security arrangements that would have been built around an international presence; and an unlimited right of return for Palestinians to return to their own state - though not to Israel. Also offered was a $30 Billion compensation package for the '48 refugees. Arafat rejected the offer without even consulting his people.
It is plain to see that USA and the Bush administration tilt towards Israel on the security and the refugee issue, and they tilt towards the Palestinians on the territory and Jerusalem issues. Yet the liberal media never ever recognise this.
