It's Friday, and that means its time to reveal the latest bit of Jew/Israel bashing from the Mail & Guardian.
In their tribute the Chief Rabbi Harris, the M&G once again took a patronising stab at the South African Jewish community. The tribute to the late Chief Rabbi Harris was leveraged by the M&G as an opportunity to have a dig at the SA Jewish community.
| On the one hand he was an outspoken proponent of human rights who gave the Jewish community lessons in humanity that had been lacking for decades, since the departure of another Scottishborn chief rabbi, Louis Rabinowitz. On the other, he could be a rigid upholder of his faith, intolerant of diversity, contemptuous ofwhat he termed "supermarket Judaism" (his description of Reform or Conservative variants of the religion). |
Methinks that it's the M&G that needs lessons in humanity. It was after all a respected M&G journalist who in a M&G opinion piece wrote
| Finally, let us now be honest. Who on the left did not feel a sense of Schadenfreude at the sight of the World Trade Centre towers crashing to the ground? It is the same instinct that now leads us to quietly celebrate the news of an Israeli casualty. In the end, oppression and its appeasement can bring out the "terrorist" in all of us. This is Shakesperean revenge tragedy in which, as in Hamlet, we all die ? either literally or figuratively in the soul. Until America and Europe begin to understand this fact and act upon it, there can be no just peace in the Middle East and no New World Order. |
There is more to moan about but they spew so much crap at you that you begin to feel like a toilet. Unfortunately I don't have time to take on some of the other spurious accusations that riddled their 'tribute'. They make it seem as if it was the Jews, a tiny minoriy in SA, who were the biggest supporters of Apartheid, pigeonholing all Jews into the same 'conservative' 'ultra-right' basket.
But please, dont complain to the M&G...their editor finds complaints really offensive. Who could blame him when Jews look like this?
